Prenatal Care

Supporting all bodies’ capacity to grow a baby

Science, Wellness, & Informed Decision-Making

Our expertise in low-risk, queer & trans centered prenatal care is what sets us apart from other obstetric and midwifery practices.

We believe in supporting folx in their baby-growing journey through the individualized and affirming midwifery model of care.

Trauma-informed, evidence-based, anti-racist, and accessible healthcare has shown to reduce parent and infant mortality rates in America. Our practice focuses on personalized prenatal monitoring, expansive community collaboration among affirming and expert healthcare providers, and continuing pregnancy education that supports shared and informed decision-making.

We do this through routine prenatal visits, evidence-based clinical care, and timely collaboration & referrals with additional providers as needed.

Childbirth Plan

Whether you are choosing (or needing) a hospital-based birth OR you’re choosing a birth center or home birth, we will facilitate timely and appropriate transfer, commonly between 28-34 weeks of gestation so that you have enough time and space to meet your new birth team and get acquainted with where & how your baby will be born

We ensure that all your health records are sent, that comprehensive advocacy of your birth plan is communicated to your new birth providers, and that you feel well set up to receive the labor & delivery care you need

If you remain low-risk and choose to have your baby with us, we offer birth center & home birth in the greater Seattle/Renton area; if this is a service you are interested in, please contact us or schedule a free consultation to learn more

Peer support groups - time & schedules vary

In-person peer support groups meet at least once a month and access is included (though not required) in our care plans

Facilitated themes in fertility, gestation (pregnancy), de-gendering parenting, and the postpartum period; guest speakers often attending

  • Full course of prenatal care: $1,700-$2,000

*All lab costs are billed to your insurance or HSA and are not included in the estimate above

*This does not include the cost of planning birth center or home birth or postpartum care with us

  • I’M PLANNING A HOSPITAL (OR BIRTH CENTER) BIRTH, BUT WANT THE BENEFIT OF MORE PERSONAL, MIDWIFERY CARE; HOW CAN I WORK WITH YOU?

We accept prenatal care only clients and will make a plan to transfer you to the provider and setting of your planned birth in a timely manner (usually around 34-36 weeks).

Most common reasons clients may choose this option is planning for a C-Section, having twins, needing more time to make decisions regarding place of birth or birth provider, or knowing they will want pain medications (such as epidural) for labor.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY MIDWIFE CAN’T ATTEND MY BIRTH?

Life happens and sometimes Rae may be attending another birth (this rarely happens), may be sick, or on a pre-scheduled vacation. For this reason, we contract with a number of back-up midwives who participate in an on-call back-up schedule updated monthly. We try to schedule meet-and-greets well in advance so you have time to get acquainted with each other.

    DO YOU OFFER WATERBIRTH?

Yes! We love catching babies in water unless we determine there is a clinical contraindication (very unlikely to be the case).

    DO YOU OFFER HOME BIRTH?

We currently offer to attend births only in local, freestanding birth centers.

We try to schedule a birth center tour during your pregnancy in order to support you feeling acquainted with the space, directions, and to help make a plan for what to pack for your baby’s birthday.

WHAT OPTIONS FOR PAIN RELIEF DO I HAVE FOR LABOR?

In most of the local birth centers, you will have the option for Nitrous oxide as a low-intervention, proven method of pain relief. Click here to learn more about Nitrous oxide.

We also offer a variety of non-pharmaceutical options including hydrotherapy, sterile water injections, TENS therapy, access to food and drink, movement, and we strongly encourage welcoming a doula as part of your birth team.
