About Village Midwifery

As a Latina-American midwife, Rae recognizes the ancestral truth that family and personal wellness has always been pursued in the context of a village, one that evolves and appears different in each generation, culture, and value system.

We don’t believe there is one, single best way to access wellness or build a family—we celebrate the diversity of all bodies including their shape, size, sexual orientation, gender identity, and family structure of choice.

We would love to be invited into whatever YOUR village looks like!

Why “Village”?

Our history

While our practice officially opens its doors in June of 2022, our story is rooted many years earlier in Costa Rica, where I was born and raised.

I am the daughter of a bi-ethnic family and granddaughter of a traditional midwife, Rosalia Jimenez (pictured on the left, holding me).  More than the Jimenez traditions, I inherited my abuelita’s deep love and commitment to authentic and unconditional care of all people.  The older I get the more aware I become of the ancestral truth that runs through our body and mind as expressed by my abuelita—that all people are inherently worthy of kindness, respect, and joy.

Midwifery has been a lifelong, personal journey for me.  One in which my passion for reproductive healthcare has been challenged by racism, patriarchy, and Western exploitations of body and personhood.

My work through the years as a student and midwife of color has slowly expanded to include the pursuit of radical joy, self-healing, and wholeness.

It is my goal to continue this narrative—for myself, for those I live and work with, and for the individuals and families that welcome me into their own journeys.
